Child pedestrian injuries are the seond leading cause of death in children 5 - 14 years: Although the number of traffic-relatled child pedestrian deaths has declined in recent years for children under 14 years of age(possibly because of the decrease in the number of child pedestrians), pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 5 - 14.

Children from birth to 2 years of age are more likely to suffer non-traffic related pedestrian injuries. What are these? Those where the child is in the driveway or on a sideway and is run over by a car backing out of a driveway. Or where the child is in a parking lot and is run over by a car.

Children are particuarly vulnerable to pedestrian death because traffic threats are beyond their cognitive ability.

Public Citizen: Public Citizen is a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts. Among its activities are writing and commenting about the dangers of tractor-trailers transporting hazardous materials on our interstate highways. Large Truck Facts and Figures: The Truck Safety Coalition is a partnership between The Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH) Foundation, and Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T). The Truck Safety Coalition is dedicated to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by truck-related crashes, providing compassionate support to truck crash survivors and families of truck crash victims, and educating the public, policy-makers and media about truck safety issues.
Large Truck Crash Causation Study: The Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS) is based on a three-year data collection project conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). LTCCS is the first-ever national study to attempt to determine the critical events and associated factors that contribute to serious large truck crashes.

News and information about serious auto defects and recalls, plus a database of state "lemon" laws.: The Center for Auto Safety website has information about auto recalls, the auto "lemon laws" of various states, as well as a way to file complaints. The website also provides resources for consumers and information about its various safety campaigns.
Crash Testing and Highway Safety: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the losses — deaths, injuries, and property damage — from crashes on the nation's highways. The Highway Loss Data Institute studies the insurance data of human and economic losses from the operation of different types of vehicles and publishes insurance loss results by vehicle make and model.

Both organizations are wholly supported by auto insurers.
